For as long as I can remember I have been interested in why people act as they do. Why does one person valiantly storm through life having been exposed to all sorts of traumatic events, while the next person may feel defeated and thwarted to the point of emotional ruin?
This lust for answers together with my own need to help has led me to my career in psychotherapy; specifically Cognitive Behavioural Psychotherapy. Through years of academia (my passion for learning is quite the addiction!) and experience, that I am immensely grateful to my clients for, I have learned how to collaborate with people to help them to become masters of their own thinking and feeling.
It is not necessary or natural to be positive all the time, and learning to acknowledge the coping strategies that we already possess, fine tune them, as well as learn some new ones, is a skill that everyone can benefit from learning in this day and age. This is what I have the extraordinary privilege to be involved with every day that a client allows me to. It is their journey that I have the honour of being witness to.
I work with adults and adolescents; working with specialised skill in dealing with Anxiety- Social anxiety/Phobia, Generalised Anxiety Disorder, Panic Disorder, Phobias, Depression, OCD, Trauma. I also work with self esteem/confidence concerns, negative thinking patterns and a wide range of mental health concerns.
I have specialist training in the form of a Masters in Cognitive Behaviour Therapy and am in the process and ready to apply for BABCP accreditation. I have completed highly specialised EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) trauma training.
Currently I am Programme Leader and Faculty lecturer with PCI College where I provide training in CBT and other modalities and skills to trainee psychotherapists to a very high academic standard.
